Ahead of the November 16 governorship election in Ondo State, the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, on Wednesday, inaugurated a 500-man campaign council to secure victory for its candidate, Agboola Ajayi.
At the inauguration, which took place at the party’s secretariat in Akure, the Governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, vowed that the PDP and Agboola would unseat Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the All Progressives Congress.
A National Vice Chairman of the party (South West), Eddy Olafeso, and a former state chairman of the party, Mr Clement Faboyede, were appointed as Chairman and Director-General, respectively of the state campaign council,
Adeleke, who was recently appointed by the national secretariat of the PDP as the chairman of the National Campaign Council, said the people had seen and felt the poor performance of the ruling APC in the state and the country at large, and had decided to vote for the PDP.
The governor recalled that he fought many battles before he became the governorship candidate of the party, before the election in 2022 but he won all, charged the members of the party to support the campaign council and work for the success of the party in the forthcoming governorship poll.
“I had about 25 cases. They tried to frustrate me but I won all of them. We are going to win the election in Ondo by the special grace of God. We must keep talking about it. Don’t have any doubt, it is always difficult to win against an incumbent but it is possible.
“As God did it in Osun State, so He will do it in Ondo. The PDP is a peaceful party; we will engage the opposition in an issue-based campaign.
“The people know what is going on, but it depends on our faith and work. Go back to your place and work for the victory of our party on November 16,” he said.
In his remarks, the governorship candidate of the party and former deputy governor of the state, Mr Agboola Ajayi, expressed optimism that the party would come out of the poll victorious.
He commended Adeleke and the Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, for their support for the party.
“Governor Adeleke has come to encourage us. The two PDP governors in the South West have been supporting us to ensure we claim our mandate here in Ondo State. We have our agenda and we are ready for the election,” Ajayi boasted.
Olafeso promised to take the campaign to the nooks and crannies of the state, saying the party was back to take the number one seat of the state.
“We are back and we are back better. We are ready to move and we will win the election,” Olafeso stated.
