Ondo YPP Campaign Council Demands Immediate Release Of AAC Governorship Candidate, Wizeman, Other Protesters

The Akinmurele/Obe Governorship Campaign Council, the campaign council of the Young Progressives Party(YPP) in the forthcoming Ondo State governorship election, John Akinmurele, has demanded an immediate and unconditional release of the governorship candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the state, Ajayi Kunle Wizeman by the Nigerian police.

The YPP Campaign Council in a statement pn Saturday obtained by SaharaReporters also demanded the immediate and unconditional release of all the #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protesters arrested by the police and security agents in the state.

SaharaReporters earlier reported that in its continued determination to muffle the voice of angry Nigerians expressing their pains through peaceful protest, operatives of the Nigeria Police Force on Saturday arrested Wizeman in Akure, the Ondo State capital.

Wizeman was arrested alongside a member of a human rights advocacy organisation, Take It Back (TIB) Movement, Patrick Owolabi, during the day 10 of the nationwide hunger protest tagged #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria.

Reacting to the arrest of Wizeman and other peaceful protesters, the Akinmurele/Obe Governorship Campaign Council, in a statement issued by its Director General, Comrade Ayodeji Oluleye, described their arrest as abuse their fundamental rights and rape of the tenets of democracy.

Oluleye said “The provocative arrest of peaceful protesters in Akure is a flagrant abuse of fundamental human right and rape of the tenets of democracy.

“Aiyedatiwa, the governor of Ondo State has once again demonstrated his incompetence, disorientation and draconian dispositions. 

“He ordered the arrest of peaceful #EndBadGovernance protesters in Akure, the Ondo State capital today 10th August 2024.

“We, the entire leadership of Akinmurele/Obe Governorship Campaign Organisation as well the members of the Young Progressives Party(YPP) Ondo State condemn the oppressive and repressive action of the governor of Ondo State, the overzealous and uncivilised security operatives who swoop arrest on peaceful protesters.

“We hereby demand that anything short of immediate and unconditional release of Kunle Wizeman Ajayi and the rest, we shall mobilise for a global mass action in the state.”
