The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) has expressed readiness to implement the electronic call-up system at the Onne Port Complex, Rivers State by September to enhance the development of eastern ports.
The Managing Director of NPA, Dr Abubakar Dantsoho, said this initiative, which has received approval from the Federal Executive Council (FEC), is part of a broader effort to streamline operations at one of West and Central Africa’s largest oil and gas logistics hubs.
Disclosing the information on the NPA’s X handle, Dantsoho, emphasised that this initiative aligns with the directive from the Minister of the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, aiming to have the system operational before the end of this quarter.
During a pre-implementation visit by the executive teams of Callup Technology Services Limited and Forge Concepts Limited, the operators of the electronic solution, Dantsoho expressed the NPA’s commitment to expediting the automation of truck traffic at Onne port.
“In line with the directive of the Minister, we are poised to provide the necessary support to fast-track the automation of truck traffic for Onne before the end of this quarter,” Dantsoho stated.
He said the electronic call-up system is expected to seamlessly integrate into the Port Community System (PCS) and the forthcoming National Single Window (NSW).
Dantsoho also highlighted the importance of structuring the Information Technology (IT) deployment in a manner that supports sustainable energy use. He noted that the Onne Port Complex, which includes the Federal Ocean Terminal (FOT) and Federal Lighter Terminal (FLT), has seen a significant surge in vessel and cargo traffic in recent years.
Dantsoho, who previously served as the Port Manager for Onne from 2020 to 2021, is credited with spearheading innovative, investor-friendly initiatives that have contributed to the year-on-year growth and success recorded at the port.
Dantsoho said as the NPA continues to modernise and expand its capabilities, the implementation of the electronic call-up system is expected to enhance further operational efficiency and cement Onne Port’s status as a critical logistics hub in the region.
