Super Falcons midfielder Esther Onyenezide has joined burgeoning Israeli club Hapoel Katamon Jerusalem from Madrid CFF after spending just six months at San Sebastián de los Reyes following her transfer from FC Robo of Lagos.
Both the Spanish side and the player took to their respective social media handles to announce the transfer on Friday.
“Esther Onyenezide Chinemerem is on her way to Hapoel,” stated the club on their Instagram page.
“It can only be God, forever grateful,” wrote Onyenezide, who had a memorable 2022 Women’s U-20 World Cup, where she was selected by FIFA as the Player of the Match, scoring twice for Nigeria during their 3-1 win against Canada.
Onyenezide and Falconets teammate Opeyemi Ajakaye joined Madrid CFF from Robo Queens in February, which was reported by PUNCH Sports Extra.
Hapoel Katamon Jerusalem, the senior women’s team of the fan-owned Hapoel Jerusalem club, are competing at the highest level of Israeli women’s football. They are currently striving for the national championship in the latter stages of the State Cup and recently won the Athena Cup, their first-ever title.
The team experienced a meteoric rise, having been founded only in the 2020-21 season, when they started playing in the third league. They finished as league runners-up last season, a feat enhanced by significant additions.
