The women wing of the Taraba State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, on Saturday opposed the appointment of a former Commissioner of Information, Lois Emmanuel, as the party’s Women Leader.

The women rejected the ex-commissioner during the party’s state congress which took place at Jolly Nyame Stadium in Jalingo metropolis.

Chanting ‘We don’t want her’, the women beckoned at the newly elected executive of the party and the state governor to as a matter of urgency address their demands for the interest of the party.

The women who voiced their grievances over Emmanuel’s election, said the newly elected Women Leader has not been friendly with PDP women.

They voiced their dissatisfaction, citing her lack of accessibility as a primary concern.

Despite the protests the party proceeded to swear in the ex-commissioner as the Women Leader.

Disturbed by the protest, Governor Agbu Kefas, who pleaded with the women to temper justice with mercy, promised to work with the party’s leadership to address their demands.

Promising to work in collaboration with the newly elected executive, he urged them to work tirelessly round the clock in order to catapult the party to greater heights.

In his acceptance speech, the newly elected state chairman of the party, Alhaji Abubakar Bawa, vowed to operate an open door policy.
