Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom

The immediate past governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, on Monday, said he welcomed  his nomination as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party.

In an interview with The PUNCH, Ortom’s media aide, Terver Akase, said his principal had received official communication of the nomination from the Benue State Working Committee of the PDP and had accepted the offer.

“Yes, the working committee of the PDP in the state has officially communicated to the former governor about its decision to nominate him as PDP BoT member. The former governor has accepted the nomination and he is willing to be BoT member of PDP,” Akase said.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Publicity Secretary of the Benue PDP, Tim Nyor, announced the decision of the party’s State Working Committee to nominate Ortom as a BoT member.

According to Nyor, the move is to leverage Ortom’s experience and dedication to the PDP.

Nyor said the decision followed the expiration of the tenure of previous BoT members and was conducted in compliance with Sections 32(1)(g) and 32(4) of the PDP Constitution.

The correspondence to Ortom, signed by the party’s State Secretary, Dan Nyikwagh, highlighted his exemplary leadership and unwavering commitment to the party’s ideals.

“After careful deliberation, the SWC under the Chairmanship of Rt Hon Ezekiel Awulu Adaji unanimously endorsed you for the position, recognising your invaluable contributions to the party, your exemplary leadership, and your commitment to the ideals and progress of the PDP,” the statement read.

The party expressed confidence that Ortom’s new role would enhance its influence and strategic direction as it prepares for upcoming elections.

It emphasised that his inclusion in the BoT would strengthen the party’s cohesion in Benue State and ensure the state’s interests are well-represented at the national level.

“With this nomination, Chief Ortom is set to play a crucial role in shaping the policies and direction of the PDP, not only in Benue State but across Nigeria,” the SWC said.
