Ahead of the September 21 governorship election in Edo State, the All Progressives Congress, on Wednesday, held a mega rally in Esaland, with ex-governor Adams Oshiomhole, the reinstated Deputy Governor, Philip Shaibu, and other party chieftains, including Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, wooing the Edo Central people to vote for the APC candidate, Senator Monday Okpebholo.

Addressing a mammoth crowd of party members and supporters, Okpebholo said he had the solutions to the myriad of problems bedeviling Edo State.

He accused Governor Godwin Obaseki of the Peoples Democratic Party of sinking the state into debt with nothing to show for it.

“In Edo State, do you know the debt profile of the state at the moment is over N573bn?  That is what Edo State owes now.

“During Adams Oshiomhole period,  monthly allocation from the Federation Account was between N3.1bn and N3.3bn but today the allocation is between N11.1bn and the Edo State Government has nothing to show for it,” the APC candidate said.

Describing himself as the best man for the job, Okpebholo said as a serving senator he came with vast experience to fix Edo State.

Okpebholo called on the people of the state not to allow the looting of public funds to continue with Obaseki’s alleged third-term agenda through the PDP governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo.

“On September 21, 2024, it is just about a month from now, we will punish them with our votes,” the senator said.

Taking to the microphone, Oshiomhole described Okpebholo as a man with listening ears, describing him as the best for Edo State.

He said from what he had seen of Okpebholo as a fellow senator at the National Assembly, Edo State would be in safe hands with him as governor.

On his part, Ize-Iyamu, a former governorship candidate, said the Edo Central rally signaled the coming of good things for both the APC and the Edo people.
