Plateau transfers two ‘strange symptoms’ to Abuja for confirmation
Osun State Government has confirmed fresh two cases of Monkeypox in Ilesa West Local Council of the state.

The state government has, therefore, activated its emergency response system to prevent further spread of the virus.

While the first case of the virus was recorded in March this year in Ilesa West Local Council, the state government said it had confirmed the second incident in the same local council on August 19.

The latest confirmed virus is on a 25-year-old lady.

Meanwhile, the state government has activated the incident management system involving multiple agencies to curb the outbreak and oversee public measures.

The emergency response team, at its meeting, said the patients’ condition had greatly improved.

The state’s Commissioner for Health, Jola Akinola, said: “I don’t entertain any fear whatsoever. COVID-19 came and we fought it successfully. Monkeypox virus will not be different.

The team said it would ensure contact tracing and embark on public enlightenment on the preventive measures against the new variant.

However, according to the epidemiological summary presented at the meeting, the state has so far recorded 47 suspected cases of Monkeypox, with 45 coming out negative and two confirmed cases.

RELATEDLY, Plateau State Government has disclosed that two strange symptoms have been reported to the ministry and the victims transferred to Abuja for confirmation.

The state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr Cletus Shurkuk, who disclosed this, yesterday, said that as the state government does not have the facilities to test whether the symptom shown was that of Monkeypox or not, the state had to transfer the victims to Abuja.

He said that the state is still awaiting the result of the diagnosis.
