The Osun State Government has revealed that it spent about N2 billion on micro-projects in several communities across the state, under the administration of Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Speaking at a media engagement forum on Monday, the General Manager of the Community and Social Development Agency in the state, Mrs Funmi Abokede, said the funds were used to provide basic social amenities to urban and rural areas of the state.
According to her, the agency’s projects are inclusive, covering the needs of every stakeholder, including persons living with disabilities.
“Governor Ademola Adeleke has been very supportive. Since his ascension to office as governor, the state government has committed about N2 billion to the completion of over 267 micro projects across the state. These projects also include facilities to alleviate the challenges faced by persons with disabilities,” she said.
The General Manager highlighted that the Osun Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus (Osun-CARES) initiative focuses on the provision of water, education, healthcare, and sanitation.
Abokede also emphasized that the agency has developed a centre for people with disabilities to showcase their skills in various trades.
“Throughout Nigeria, Osun State is the only state that has a center for people with disabilities. We have the centre at Edunabon, and some states have visited to replicate the idea,” she added.
The General Manager stressed that the funds spent by the government were intended to ensure that basic social amenities reached urban and rural areas of the state, noting that many physically challenged individuals, widows, and the poor were the major beneficiaries.
“Governor Ademola Adeleke has continually given full support for micro-projects widely spread across the state, and the Community Action for Resilience and Economic Stimulus initiative of the agency will continue to focus on the provision of water, education, healthcare, and sanitation,” she concluded.
