The Inter-Party Advisory Council in Osun State has urged supporters of different political parties to shun acts capable of disrupting peace, assuring them that it would continue to promote initiatives that would enhance peace in the state.
In a statement signed by the Osun IPAC chairman, Mr Victor Akande, obtained in Osogbo, the state capital, on Wednesday, the group, which declared that it would continue to partner with the state government in the interest of the citizens, said it is not an opposition group.
To further consolidate the existing political tolerance in the state, the group subsequently disclosed plans to honour all past governors and the incumbent, Mr. Ademola Adeleke.
“We are organising IPAC Day during which we will present meritorious awards to great men who have served as democratically elected governors in Osun state.
“Governors to be honoured at the event are; Senator Isiaka Adeleke (posthumous award), Chief Bisi Akande, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola, Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola, Alhaji Gboyega Oyetola and Asiwaju Ademola Adeleke.
“We are not opposition to the government. All political parties in the state belong to IPAC and we are partners to the government. We are not opposition and our role is to advise the government in power.
“But as individual political parties, we can play the role of opposition. We are funding the event with contributions from members and activities for the day will include paper presentations by a renowned scholar,” the statement partly read.
