Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has expressed his administration’s commitment to prioritise housing schemes and relieve the populace of the stress of building houses for themselves.

The governor, who observed that the state’s housing deficit was unpleasant, stressed the compelling need for the government to adopt a housing model that would harness limited space to deliver safe homes through public/private partnerships for the Ekiti people.

The governor, who spoke during the flag-off of the construction of 1000 affordable housing units under the Ado Ekiti New Town Project in Ado Ekiti, said the project, which is in partnership with the private sector, is one of his administration’s strategies to enhance growth and development.

While promising to leave an indelible legacy in the provision of mass housing in Ekiti state, he disclosed that 100 units of the houses would be delivered within a year.

Oyebanji reassured that the government will embrace the global housing policy that will make people become homeowners through an inclusive and convenient financing system based on their incomes, adding that the policy, along with outright purchase for those who can afford it, will support a sustainable system in which houses are consistently available to the populace.

Oyebanji said his administration will explore innovation and partnerships with more private investors to attract more housing projects to the state. He added that the government is unequivocally committed to driving development in all sectors of the economy and working with private sector players, institutions, and development partners.
