Oyo cracks down on illegal sale of land, jails council worker

The Oyo State Anti-Corruption Agency (OYACA) yesterday expressed concerns over corrupt practices within the state’s public sector. This was contained in a statement by the Chairman of OYACA, Justice Eni Esan (rtd), who cautioned civil servants against corrupt practices.

The agency said corruption erodes public trust and hinders the state’s socio-economic development, particularly within the civil service. The warning followed the sentencing of a senior official within the Estate Department of Lagelu Local Council, Ibadan, Adesina Olanrewaju Oyegoke, to three months imprisonment for his involvement in the illegal sale of land under the purview of the Oyo State Housing Corporation.

Magistrate O.A. Akande of Special Court 8, Iyaganku, found Oyegoke guilty of all three counts of official corruption as charged under the OYACA Law of 2019.

In a stern warning, Justice Eni Esan reiterated the agency’s commitment to upholding transparency and accountability in public service, stressing that any civil servant engaging in corrupt practices would face the weight of the law .
