Oyo Gov’t Donates N20m To Support Fire Victims

The Oyo State government on Friday presented cheques totalling N20 million to traders who suffered loses from fire incidents across four markets in Ibadan metropolis.

Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, Hon. Mrs. Toyin Balogun while presenting the cheques at the Conference Room of the ministry, assured that the government will leave no stone unturned in its efforts to bring succor to the needy and downtrodden in the efforts to promote healthy living and economic stability.

Hon Balogun said the state governor, Engr Seyi Makinde is a listening governor and a lover of peace who strives to make life easier for the citizens through initiatives that empower them towards boosting the economy of the state.

The Commissioner stated that the governor approved the disbursement of money to victims across four markets that experienced fire incidents some months ago.

She named the beneficiary traders as those from Gbaremu, Sango ojurin, Oranyan and Oke-Itunu markets which she noted as the first phase of such intervention while assuring that there are other affected markets to benefit from the intervention.

In their separate goodwill messages at the presentation, Senator Monsurat Sunmonu, the South West Woman leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Bose Adedibu; Chief Babatunde Tijani, Chief Ashipa Ismaila and the Asiwaju Oloja General Oyo State, Chief Mrs Juliana Raimi appreciated the initiative of the state government.

They stressed that putting smile on the faces of these traders will also translate into putting smiles on their dependents’ faces.

The party leaders also enjoined the beneficiaries to use the money to revive their businesses and guide against preventable fire outbreak in the markets.

A total of N20 million cheques were distributed to the affected fire victims through their market leaders who were advised to make sure that all registered victims get the money due to each one of them.

All four markets confirmed receipt of alerts in their bank accounts, matching the exact amounts indicated on the cheques presented to them.

Some of the beneficiaries, Mrs Rasidat Ahmed from Oranyan Market and Chief (Mrs) Borode Omotayo, Iya Loja Ibadan North local government expressed their joy and appreciation to the state government for remembering their plight.

They prayed that God will continue to give the governor wisdom to lead the state aright.
