Oyo pays N513m compensation to property owners

The Oyo State Government has commenced the payment of compensation to owners of the affected properties along the Ajia Inukan Local Council Development Area, Ona Ara Local Government of the state.

The Commissioner for Lands, Housing and Urban Development, Mr Williams Akin-Funmilayo, disclosed this on Monday at a meeting with the claimants, according to a statement issued on Tuesday, August 20, by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince ‘Dotun Oyelade.

Akin-Funmilayo said the government recently acquired an expanse of land for developmental projects comprising the construction of Air Force Base, General Hospital and Information Communication and Technology centre, which he said, were all sited at Ajia in Ona Ara Local Government Area, corridor of the state.

Akin-Funmilayo said the Oyo State government had earmarked the sum of five hundred and thirteen million, four hundred and sixty-two thousand, four hundred and forty-six naira fifty kobo (N513, 462, 446. 50k) as compensation to the affected claimants.

The compensation, according to Akin-Funmilayo, “is a crucial step towards fostering a good relationship between the government and the residents.”

According to the statement, the Oyo State government had earlier conducted an identification and verification exercise for the property owners along the corridor of the project, after which their properties were valued in preparation for the payment of compensation by the government.

One of the claimants, Mr Adedokun Olalekan, expressed gratitude to Governor ‘Seyi Makinde, for his empathy towards the people of Oyo State.
