Oyo sends 250 athletes, 58 officials to NYG

The Oyo State Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Wasilat Adegoke, announced on Monday that over 250 athletes and 58 officials from the state would participate in the 2024 National Youth Games, organised by the Federal Ministry of Sports for the under-15 athletes.

The under-15 athletes were drawn from the 36 states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

The commissioner made this announcement while addressing them before their departure at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, in Ibadan, the state capital.

She explained that the “Oyo Team will participate in the 8th edition of the National Youth Games, held in Asaba, Delta State. 28 sports, which include ball games, are available for the athletes.

“Over 250 athletes and 58 officials from this state will participate in the games.”

Adegoke, therefore, urged them to be of good behaviour and eschew bad behaviour that would negatively affect the image of the state.

The commissioner further charged them to ensure that they secure gold in all the events.

She then commended Team Oyo for clinching first position in five team sports at the Zonal Elimination for Ball Games, held in Osogbo, Osun State,
recently.
