Paris 2024: Brazil’s Adriana prioritises Falcons opener

Brazil forward Adriana warns that Friday’s Olympics Women’s Football Tournament Group C opener against the Nigeria Super Falcons would be crucial, PUNCH Sports Extra reports.

Both teams will face each other at the Matmut Atlantique Stadium in Bordeaux City, France, looking to make a winning start to their campaign.

Randy Waldrum’s team have been labelled the underdogs of the group, but Adriana, who plays for Orlando Pride, is anticipating a very tough match against the 11-time Women’s Africa Cup of Nations champions.

“This first game is crucial. In fact, it will always be like this. In any case, we need to concentrate and focus a lot on this debut. And take it step by step,” the forward told Sambafoot.

The former Corinthians forward reckons that victory against Nigeria in their opening game hinges on respecting key details.

“A detail from a set piece, for example, whether it’s to score a goal or to prevent the opposing team from scoring, we must pay as much attention as possible, not only in games but also in our daily training,” she added.

The Female Canaries are currently on the rise following a disastrous 2023 World Cup campaign in Australia and New Zealand, where they crashed out at the group stage for the first time.

They made a coaching change in September, which saw Arthur Elias replace Pia Sundhage.

Since then, the Selecao have won 10 of their 15 games, reaching the CONCACAF W Gold Cup final in March as a result.
