Paris Olympics: ‘Nothing Has Been Done’ – Favour Ofili Cries Out Again

1 month ago 5

Nigeria Athlete, Favour Ofili, has cried out for the second time that her name was yet to be included in the list of athletes for 100-meter race at the Paris Olympics.

Naija News reported that Favour, despite qualifying and registering for the 100-meter race, Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFC) and Nigeria Olympics Committee (NOC) failed to enlist her for the race.

It is with great regret that I have just been told I will not be competing in the 100 meters at this Olympic Games. I qualified, but those with the AFN and NOC failed to enter me. I have worked for 4 years to earn this opportunity.

“Please remember, in the last Olympic Games I was not able to compete because AFN, NADC and NOC failed to release funds for athletes to be tested, which made 14 Nigeria athletes that qualified to not compete,” Favour wrote on her X handle, on Tuesday.

Nigeria Minister of Sports Development, Senator Owan Enoh, on Wednesday, confirmed that Ofili registered and was qualified for the 100-meter race.

In his statement, Senator Enoh mandated AFN and NOC to ensure that Favour participated in the race or face sanction.

As Minister of Sports, I will not tolerate this utter recklessness. It is highly inexcusable, and there will be thorough sanctions after investigations into where and from whom this gross negligence originated.

“All parties must take their duties very seriously. The current way of operating the Federal Ministry of Sports Development does not allow for incompetence at any level.

“As an immediate measure, the Athletic Federation of Nigeria and the Nigeria Olympic Committee must ensure that Favour Ofili is not deprived of the opportunity to compete in the races for which she is qualified and registered to represent the country at the Paris Olympics. She is committed to proving her mettle,” Senator Enoh said.

Unfortunately, the Minister of Sports’ threat has not changed anything as Favour on Friday (today) took to her X account to lament that AFN and NOC have not done anything to ensure she takes part in the 100-meter race.

Sadly, nothing has been done. I’m yet to see or hear anyone is being punished for what the NOC and AFN did to me. Athletes shouldn’t be getting punished for things out of their control,” She wrote Friday afternoon.
