The Nigerian Institute of Transport Technology has urged youths in Nigeria to take advantage of the over 20 skills development programmes currently offered by NITT.

NITT’s Director-General and Chief Executive, Dr Bayero Farah, made the call while receiving an Award of Excellence from the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Sabon Gari Branch, Kaduna.

Farah, in a statement from the institute, highlighted the importance of youth as a critical component of nation-building, stating that without them, there would be no nation.

He expressed gratitude to the youth council for the honour, stating that it motivates him to contribute even more to the socio-economic development of the country.

“The youth have a significant role in making this country great. Our focus at NITT has been to develop the youth by equipping them with skills in various trades within the transport and logistics sector.

“With this, we are confident they will be able to stand on their own, become entrepreneurs, and create employment opportunities,” he said.

On the skills development programmes, he noted that participating in them would not only enable the youths to become self-employed but would also allow them to become employers and contribute positively to society.

“Recently, we received approval for over 20 skills development programmes from the National Board for Technical Education. We have already commenced some of these programmes and by the end of this year we plan to offer more.

“This is an opportunity for the youth, especially those in Sabon Gari, our neighbours, to take advantage of these programmes so that they can become self-employed, entrepreneurs, and productive members of society,” he added.

The DG also pledged to collaborate with the youth, stating, “Our doors are always open to you. Anytime you need our support and collaboration in any of our programmes and activities, please feel free to reach out. We are ready to support and work with you for the betterment of our society and our country.”

The NYCN Coordinator, Jibril Salihi, noted that Farah was nominated for the award due to his determined commitment to excellence, as demonstrated by the substantial infrastructural transformation of NITT since he assumed office.

“As we honour Farah today, we also recognise the potential for collaboration and partnership between NYCN and NITT. We believe that together, we can significantly impact the upliftment and training of our youth, especially in the area of skills acquisition.

“We acknowledge Dr Farah’s remarkable achievements, his passion for excellence, and his commitment to teamwork and collaboration. We celebrate his accomplishments and honour him for his tireless efforts to advance the transport and logistics industry in Nigeria,” Salihi stated.
