PDP crisis: Damagum not my friend, never supported me – Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has said the Acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Umar Ilyas Damagum, is not his friend and never supported him.

DAILY POST reports that the opposing factions in the PDP are back in their trenches, restrategising ahead of the party’s NEC meeting coming up on Thursday.

The governors are calling for the meeting of the NEC to find a lasting solution to the crisis, which has polarised the party.

On one side are Atiku and his supporters while on the other are Wike and those who accuse Atiku and his people of violating the PDP’s policy on sharing or zoning of offices.

DAILY POST recalls that the crisis took a turn for the worse last weekend when the pro-Atiku men suspended Damagum and the National Secretary Sam Anyanwu, who are both perceived to have sympathy for Wike.

However, addressing his supporters and PDP members in Port Harcourt on Saturday, Wike said all he wanted was to ensure that Damagun completed the tenure of Ayu.

“They say Damagun should go. I’m not a friend of Damagun; he never supported me,” the former Rivers Governor said.

“The truth must be told at all times: we agree that Damagun should complete the tenure of Ayu. But let me tell why you should be careful in trusting people…those of them who sat with us to agree on that…I saw something and I was like, this man, this man, I can’t trust you.”
