PDP dismisses NNPP’s threat to unseat Adeleke in 2026

The Osun State chapter of the New Nigeria Peoples Party has vowed to unseat Governor Ademola Adeleke in the 2026 governorship election.

This declaration was made on Thursday during the inauguration of the NNPP’s offices in the Ila, Boripe, and Ifelodun local government areas of the state.

Speaking at the event, Osun NNPP Chairman, Dr. Tosin Odeyemi, expressed confidence in the party’s chances of clinching victory in 2026, citing the incumbent administration’s perceived shortcomings and the economic challenges facing the country.

“We in NNPP are optimistic about our chances in the 2026 poll. The current economic hardship is demarketing the APC at the federal level, while the PDP administration in Osun has shown limited capacity to improve governance. This gives us an edge as we gear up to end Governor Adeleke’s reign,” Odeyemi stated.

He urged party members to remain committed, assuring them of a bright future for the NNPP in Osun State.

However, the Osun State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party dismissed the NNPP’s claims as baseless.

Speaking to journalists, the PDP’s Director of Media and Publicity, Oladele Bamiji, described the NNPP’s position as empty rhetoric, emphasising Governor Adeleke’s strong performance since assuming office.

“They are just trying to please their sponsors. The NNPP cannot stop the re-election of a performing governor like Senator Ademola Adeleke. The people of Osun will not allow anyone to derail the progress the state is currently enjoying,” Bamiji said.

The NNPP’s bold claims and the PDP’s firm rebuttal highlight the growing tension as political parties begin preparations for the next governorship election in Osun State.
