Former Senator Dino Melaye has said it is the end of the road for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), alleging that the party’s National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, and the National Organizing Secretary, Umar Bature, have destroyed the party.

Melaye said this in a post he shared on his X account on Saturday, bemoaning the crisis that has befallen the PDP in recent times.

“End of the road for PDP as Damagum, Bature, and Anyanwu irredeemably destroyed the party,” Melaye lamented.

“We will talk about the commercialization and privatization of PDP. PDP is now once upon a time.”

The PDP candidate during the 2023 Kogi State governorship poll appears to have sounded this note of warning ahead of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria.

There have been calls for Damagum to quit his position and pave the way for a substantive national chairman to emerge from the North-Central zone of Nigeria.

The PDP State House of Assembly Candidates Forum (PDP-SHACF) also called for sanctions against the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, and others in some states who openly worked against the party in the 2023 general election.

The Coalition of United Political Parties (CUPP) also recently accused Damagum and Anyanwu of plotting to sabotage Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s administration in Rivers State.

The lawmakers claimed that Damagum and Anyanwu are working behind the scenes to derail an ongoing legal battle against defected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly, who switched allegiance to the All Progressives Congress (APC).
