Prominent figures and groups across Nigeria have paid glowing tributes to former Vice President and 2023 presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar, as he marked his 78th birthday on Monday.

In a statement, PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, lauded Atiku as a compassionate and visionary leader.

He highlighted Atiku’s contributions as Chairman of the National Economic Council under the Obasanjo administration from 1999 to 2007, “a period that saw Nigeria experience significant economic growth”.

Ologunagba also reiterated the PDP’s claim of electoral mandates in 2019 and 2023 being “subverted by undemocratic forces.”

Former Sokoto State Governor and senator, Aminu Tambuwal, praised Atiku’s commitment to democratic values, describing him as a beacon of resilience and selfless service.

Tambuwal stated, “Your dedication to fostering national unity, advancing economic reform, and improving governance continue to inspire many.”

Former Minority Leader of the House of Representatives, Ndudi Elumelu, commended Atiku’s use of his global connections for Nigeria’s benefit and acknowledged his pivotal role in Nigeria’s economic recovery during his tenure as vice president.

He referred to Atiku as a “quintessential statesman” and a “voice of the voiceless.”

The Atiku Support Organisation also celebrated the former vice president, emphasizing his vision for economic diversification and national unity. The group’s National Publicity Secretary, Victor Moses, described Atiku as a leader whose legacy inspires hope for a better Nigeria.

“At 78, Atiku’s remarkable journey in public service continues to inspire millions,” the statement read, further expressing optimism about his role in Nigeria’s future development.

As Atiku’s supporters reflect on his achievements, they also see him as a unifier whose experience and understanding of Nigeria’s complexities position him as a key figure for the nation’s progress.
