Former Liverpool and FC Barcelona goalkeeper, Pepe Reina, has completed his move to the newly promoted Serie A club, Como.

Pepe Reina will play under his former Spain’s national team-mate, Cesc Fabregas, who is the club’s assistant coach and co-owner.

The 41-year-old Spanish goalkeeper was last contracted to La Liga club, Villarreal but wasn’t able to grab the club’s starting shirt. Hence, he had to move to the next available club.

Reina has signed a season-long deal with Como which is expected to expire at the end of the forthcoming 2024-2025 season.

“Como 1907 is pleased to announce the signing of Pepe Reina until June 2025″, the club announced on X earlier today, July 18.

“An experienced goalkeeper, Reina has defended the goals of Barcelona, Villarreal, Liverpool, Napoli, Bayern Munich, AC Milan, Aston Villa and Lazio in his career.”

A statement from Cesc Fabregas over the arrival of the Spanish goalkeeper reads: “We are thrilled to welcome Pepe to the club. He is a goalkeeper with great international experience and a very competitive mentality. For these reasons, I am sure that his contribution will help the team to grow and improve.”

After sealing his move to Como on a free transfer, the 2010 FIFA World Cup winner said he is ready to contribute to the growth of the newly promoted side.

“I arrive in a beautiful project, a family that continues to grow and tries to raise the bar every year. I return to a league that I know well and that I know is very competitive, for my part I want to give my contribution to the development of this club”, he said.

Note that Pepe Reina is one of the few goalkeepers in history with three Premier League Golden Gloves. He won the FA Cup, EFL Cup, Community Shield, and the UEFA Super Cup at Liverpool. Reina also won the Bundesliga at Bayern Munich, and the Italian Cup at Napoli.
