Peter Obi Calls For Arrest Of Those Behind ‘Igbo Must Go’ Threat In Lagos, South-West

Former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, has called for immediate arrest and legal action against those inciting genocidal threats towards the Igbo community in Lagos.

Naija News reports that the social media landscape was recently flooded with a hashtag urging Igbos to leave Lagos and other states in the South-West region.

The development has received mixed reactions from various quarters, with many citizens condemning those behind the hashtag.

Obi, who was the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, condemned this move directed at the Igbos, characterizing it as profoundly troubling.

Obi, who had earlier cried out that some persons were deliberately blackmailing him, urged all Nigerians to stand united against divisive rhetoric and to champion unity, tolerance and understand across the country.

“I have read genocidal threats on X against the Igbo tribe, calling for their relocation. Let me pointedly warn that such rhetoric threatens our unity and is fundamentally opposed to our Constitution, which guarantees every Nigerian the right to live and work freely anywhere in the country.

“Those in authority must show leadership and urgently speak out against such divisive rhetoric.

“Immediate action should be taken to investigate, arrest, and prosecute those behind this heinous agenda, serving as a deterrent to others who might consider pursuing similar paths that threaten our national security and unity.

“I urge all Nigerians to stand united against this divisive rhetoric and to champion unity, tolerance, and understanding. Our future depends on our ability to live and work together harmoniously,” Obi wrote in a thread on his official X handle on Friday.
