Labour Party supporter Aisha Yesufu said Peter Obi was only a beneficiary of the anger of a group of Nigerians against the government during the 2023 elections.

She said that Obi did not create the ‘Obidient’ movement but it was a result of the #Endsars protest against the government.

Yesufu, in a post on X on Friday, noted that there was already a movement before the name Obidient was coined.

She explained that the movement was fueled by the collective anger and frustration of Nigerians, who felt mocked and dismissed by the APC government.

The supporters of Obi’s presidential ambition, named “Obidient,” comprised youths and individuals before the elections.

Obi’s announcement of his presidential ambitions, according to Yesufu, resonated with many – mostly youths – desiring the oust the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

“Peter Obi was a beneficiary of that collective anger of the people. When he made his intentions to run for presidency many with that collective anger supported him and from there the name was coined to fit the candidate following the habit of naming supporters after a person supported in Nigeria,” Aisha said.

“There was already a movement before the name OBIdient was coined.”
