The Kano State Police Command has successfully apprehended a notorious armed robber, seizing two AK-47 rifles and 47 rounds of live ammunition in the process.

Naija News gathered that the arrest occurred early Monday morning after a report of a violent robbery in Yandadi Village, located in the Kunchi Local Government Area.

In a statement, Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, identified the suspect as Hassan Iliya, a 35-year-old from Alhazawa Village in Musawa LGA, Katsina State. Iliya was captured while attempting to flee on a motorcycle.

The police recovered ₦4.986 million in cash, believed to be part of the ₦15 million stolen during the robbery.

The suspect was apprehended following an intelligence-driven patrol by our detectives.

“During a search, we found a sack containing two AK-47 rifles, 47 rounds of live ammunition, and nearly five million naira in cash,” SP Kiyawa announced.

The robbery, which took place at approximately 2:00 AM on August 5th, involved a group of armed men breaking into a resident’s home in Yandadi Village. The attackers reportedly assaulted the victim and escaped with ₦15 million.

However, the police’s rapid response led to the swift capture of the main suspect just hours after the crime was reported.

State Commissioner of Police, CP Salman Garba, praised the officers involved in the operation for their quick action.

He also encouraged the public to stay vigilant and to report any suspicious activities to the police.

Despite the challenges posed by the ongoing nationwide protests, our officers remain dedicated to ensuring the safety and security of Kano State residents.

“We urge everyone to stay patriotic, avoid inciting violence, and continue to support the police in maintaining peace,” CP Garba stated.

The commissioner also shared emergency contact numbers for the public to report any suspicious behavior.

The police have assured that the investigation is ongoing and that efforts are being made to capture any accomplices involved in the robbery.

The suspect will be charged to court once the investigation is complete.

Residents of Yandadi Village expressed relief at the police’s prompt action, commending the force for restoring a sense of security in the community.
