The Nigerian Army has promoted Second Lieutenant Oluchukwu Owowoh to the substantive rank of Lieutenant.

The historic promotion was directed by the Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja.

The Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) announced the development in a statement on Wednesday, June 26, 2024, via their official X handle (formerly Twitter).

The NDA Commandant, Major General JO Ochai, lauded Lt. Owowoh’s exemplary track record during the decoration ceremony held at the Nigerian Defence Academy Officer’s Mess and Golf Club. Major General Ochai highlighted her remarkable journey, noting that, “Lt. Owowoh’s exceptional performance as a cadet granted her the unique honor of being the first female Nigerian officer to be trained at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, leading to her well-deserved promotion.”

The ceremony was graced by senior military officers, academic and non-academic staff, family members, and other distinguished guests.

LEADERSHIP recalls that in April, Owowoh, 24, etched her name in history by becoming the first Nigerian female officer to graduate from the prestigious Royal Military Academy (RMA) in Sandhurst, United Kingdom.
