PICTORIAL: Gov Yusuf Assents Bill Creating 3 Second Class Emirates In Kano

The Kano State governor, Abba Yusuf, has assented into law the new Kano State Emirates Bill 2024, establishing three new second class Emirates in the state.

The governor, while thanking the State House of Assembly for listening to the yearnings of the people, also appreciated the ability of the State lawmakers to live up to their constitutional responsibility.

The three new Emirates include Gaya Emirate made up of Gaya, Ajingi and Albasu local government areas; Rano Emirate made up of Rano, Kibiya and Bunkure local government areas, and Karaye Emirate, made up of Karaye and Rogo local government areas of the State.

“The Kano State House of Assembly has achieved another significant constitutional responsibility by passing a Bill for the establishment of the three second class Emirates in the state.

“This milestone marks a new significance in our continued effort to conserve and preserve the cultural heritage and traditional institutions that are important for the unity of our beloved state.

“Let me say that the establishment of the three second class Emirates – Gaya Emirate, comprising Gaya, Ajingi and Albasu local governments, Rano Emirate comprising of Rano Kibiya and Bunkure local governments and the Karaye Emirate, comprising of Karaye and Rogo, is a testament to our commitment to recognise our traditional leadership that have played a pivotal role in the administration and development of our community.

“Our administration recognises the importance of traditional institutions in maintaining peace and development,” the governor stated on Tuesday.

The Bill was presented to the State governor by the Speaker of State House of Assembly, Jibril Falgore, at the Council Chamber of the Government House, Kano.

The Speaker thanked the state governor for cooperating with the State Assembly while promising to continue with the synergy.

“Your Excellency, this Bill, Kano State Emirate Councils Law 2024, 1446 AH, is already marked and we are here to get it assented.

“Your Excellency, if this Bill is signed into law, it will improve the economy of those Emirates. Not only improve the economy, it will also bring people closer to the government,” the Speaker said.

The new second class Emirs to administer the three Emirates will soon be announced to the public, the governor stated.
