Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has officially reopened the Kano State Driving Institute, marking the end of an eight-year closure.
The institute, established during Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso’s second term, had been inactive due to neglect.
Governor Yusuf, addressing a gathering at the reopening ceremony, lamented the impact of the closure on local youths.
“The Institute was meant to create job opportunities and enhance road safety by training professional drivers,” Yusuf said. Adding, “The previous administration’s inaction deprived many youths of these benefits.”
The governor announced that 250 young people were enrolled on the first day, highlighting the institute’s role in reducing road accidents and supporting the state’s transportation sector.
He urged industry stakeholders to support the institute by providing job opportunities for graduates.
Governor Yusuf also made commitment towards providing the necessary resources for the institute’s success and encouraged the new students to embrace their training with dedication.
