Governor Caleb Mutfwang‘s government of Plateau State has announced the formation of a committee tasked to distribute 20 trucks filled with bags of rice donated by the Federal Government.

Naija News reports that this announcement was made during a meeting with a group of youths from the state on August 16 in Jos.

The governor clarified that the 20 trucks contain 25kg bags of rice, contrary to claims circulating in some circles that they are 50kg bags.

Mutfwang further elaborated that the committee comprises representatives from all 17 local government areas (LGAs) within the state.

”This committee consists of all LGA chairmen, Commissioners from each LGAs, representatives of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), and Jama’atu Nasril Islam (JNI).

”Other members of the committee include, principals of all boarding schools in each LGA, youth and women leaders,” he said.

Mutfwang, however, observed that the delivery of 20 trucks filled with bags of rice was significantly insufficient.

He assured that the state government would acquire more trucks to guarantee that the aid reaches all vulnerable individuals within the state.

Many Palliatives Given To Kano Were Not Evenly Distributed – Sen Jibrin

Meanwhile, the Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, has alleged that many palliatives were given to the Kano people but were not evenly distributed.

Senator Barau Jibrin said his committee would ensure that the 23,644 bags of 25kg rice allocated to the Kano people by the federal government are evenly distributed to the needy.

Jibrin stated this on Thursday after a meeting with committee members at the National Assembly Complex in Abuja.

He explained that the meeting was to create a modality to reach the needy who require the palliative.

He added that the committee comprised members of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the New Nigeria Progressive Party (NNPP) and the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC).

Senator Jibrin added that President Bola Tinubu cares for the needy in the North and across the country.

The Kano North Senator said, “We just had a meeting in respect to a committee set up by the government, by President; on how to distribute palliatives to the needy, in respect of our Kano State people. So we are here because the President is concerned about how the sides are being done properly.

“So he decided to set up this committee to ensure that there is equitable distribution of palliatives to the needy of Kano State. You can see we’ve taken our time to create a modality that the palliatives will be taken down to the people that need the palliatives.

“The President is concerned, he has the care of his people, he has the care of the people of Kano State and of course the entire people of this country. So this is what we are here for, that’s why we dedicate our time to do the exercise in the best manner possible.”

On the members of the committee, he said, “It includes those who are in other parties, the NNPP, the ruling party in Kano State, PDP, members of IPAC and others. So it’s all-inclusive, it’s all-inclusive, there’s no politics attached to it at all.

“The mandate is to make sure that everyone that needs help gets help anywhere. The way of helping the people, those poor, the poor, the needy. So that’s what the President, that’s the mandate given to us.

“That this committee should do that, make sure that this palliative is distributed, gets to the people. He has given a lot of palliatives, but they’ve not been distributed evenly. They’ve not gone to those that should have these palliatives.”
