The All Progressives Congress in Plateau State has kicked off its campaigns ahead of the forthcoming local government elections slated for October 9, 2024.

Speaking in Kanam Local Government Area where the campaign took off on Monday, the lawmaker representing the Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam constituency in the House of Representatives, Yusuf Gagdi said his constituents will vote for the APC because of the mark the party has made in the area.

The APC also received 15,000 decampees from the ruling PDP in the State.

He also called on the electoral umpire, the Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission to ensure that it conducts credible polls that would be free and fair to all.

The lawmaker said, “The essence of this gathering is to show Plateau people that Kanam LGA is ready for the upcoming elections.

“As long as elections are conducted, nobody can rig the polls in Kanam.

“Our people are our missiles, through their votes, they will attack whosoever is coming their way.”

On why Kanam people should vote for the APC, the lawmaker said, “Because all the roads in Kanam were constructed by me and I’m a product of APC.

“We challenge the PDP-led administration in the state to come out and tell my constituents what it has done for them in its over one year in office.

“The PDP-led administration in this state has received a lot of money from the Federal Government but there is nothing to show for it, especially in my constituency,” he maintained.

He added, “We want to call on PLASIEC to conduct free and fair elections.

“And if that is done, I’m sure the people of Kanam would take their destinies into their hands.”

He urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding before, during and after the elections.

Also speaking, the chairman of the party in the State, Rufus Bature, commended the lawmaker for his efforts in uplifting his constituents and the constituency at large.

He called on the people of Kanam to come out and vote for the party, to continue to enjoy the dividends of democracy.

Bature, however, assured those who defected from the PDP to the APC of an equal level playing ground as any other member of the party and urged them to work assiduously to ensure they emerge victorious in the upcoming polls.

Chairman of the party and the gubernatorial candidate of the APC in the 2023 general elections, Dr Nentawe Yilwatda, presented the party’s flags to the chairmanship and councillorship candidates and expressed confidence that they will emerge victorious at the end of the poll.
