The Plateau State government has commenced the renovation of the Rwang Pam Township Stadium to boost sport development, urban renewal and also pave the way for the young ones to exhibit their talents.

Even as it gives assurance that the abandoned international Stadium in Zaria road will receive government attention as soon as the renovation on the Township Stadium is completed.

Speaking with newsmen shortly after the inspection of the stadium, the state commissioner for housing and  urban development, Dr. Joshua Ubandoma, said the renovation work on the Stadium was part of the state government’s commitment and policy to give the state capital a facelift.

“The state government wants everything to become standard; sporting facilities in the state will not be left out. That is why the state government has deemed it fit to rehabilitate the township stadium in readiness for work to commence on the international stadium under construction.

“The renovation going on here will soon be completed; the government is committed to it. The government will not abandon the Zaria Road International Stadium; the governor has invited investors to look into the work and to see how it can be completed.

In the same vein the commissioner for information and communications, Hon. Musa Ashom, pointed out that the state government is embarking on the complete turnaround of the Stadium because of the premium it placed on the youths.

“There is the need for Plateau to have a relatively standard stadium before the completion of the bigger one under construction. As soon as we complete this, sporting activities will be shifted from the Zaria Road stadium to this place. It would be a wrong calculation to embark on the bigger one without creating room for alternatives.
