The Ogun State Police Command, on Saturday, said that it has arrested 34-year-old Adekunle Adebajo, popularly called Kunle Polly, a suspected cultist for allegedly participating in the murder of a rival cultist known as Mosquito in Ijebu Ode area of Ogun.
Mosquito was reported to have been hacked to death recently with his left hand cut off and taken away.
The state police spokesperson, SP Omolola Odutola, disclosed this in a statement issued in Abeokuta, the state capital, on Saturday.
She said that on August 12, a concerned citizen made a distress call to the Divisional Police Officer in Igbeba that rival cult members engaged one another where Mosquito was shot, macheted and his left hand severed and taken away by his killers.
Odutola noted that Adebajo popularly called “ Kunle Polly”, who was suspected to be one of the killers of Mosquito was arrested at 12:03 a.m. in his hideout at Isiwo, Ijebu.
She disclosed that credible information was provided by the public which sustained the police tracks that indicated the hideout of the fleeing suspects.
Odutola said, “Upon receiving this information, a team of detectives promptly mobilised and took action by moving to the location, where one suspect, Adekunle Adebajo aka Kunle Polly, 34, was apprehended.
“During interrogations, Kunle Polly admitted to being a member of the Eiye confraternity.
“This prompted a search to be conducted at his residence which led to the recovery of a Beretta pistol with six live rounds, two UTC axes, and charms.
“Investigation is ongoing to unravel the pattern of severing the left hand of their victims, and to arrest other criminals that fled the hideout.”
She said that the suspect is undergoing preliminary investigation in Igbeba Division, Ijebu Ode.
The Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Alamutu, reassured all that the era of cultism in the Isiwo Ijebu community had gone, promising that the remaining suspects would be brought to justice to account for their misdeeds.
The state command had on Friday arrested a 35-year-old wanted suspected cultist, Olamilekan Akojede, in Oja Odan, Yewa-North Local Government Area of the state.
Akojede was said to be the number one of the Alora confraternity and had been on the police watch list until he was arrested.
He was said to be known for terrorising the residents of the area before his arrest.
