The Nasarawa State Police Command said it had launched a manhunt for some suspected gunmen who allegedly killed one person and abducted two others in the Gadabuke community of Toto Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s Public Relations Officer, Ramhan Nansel, disclosed this in a telephone conversation with PUNCH Metro on Tuesday.

Nansel had earlier stated that the gunmen invaded the residence of a man known as Agaba Yakubu on Monday and in the process, shot Yakubu Garba and abducted two others.

According to him, the police officers in the division mobilised to the scene of the incident and recovered the corpse of the victim before handing it over to his family.

He said, “On (Sunday) August 25 at about 2 am, a distress call was received by the Divisional Police Officer of Toto Division that the residence of one Agaba Yakubu of Gadabuke was invaded by unknown gunmen where one Garba Yakubu was shot and two others abducted.

“Upon receiving the distress call, the Divisional Police Officer of Toto Division immediately mobilised operatives to the scene.

“The corpse of the victim was recovered and later released to his family for burial under Islamic rites.”

In a follow-up conversation with our correspondent, Nansel noted that the police were on the trail of the gunmen.

He stressed that police officers had been mobilised to rescue the abducted persons while stating that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.

“We are on the trail of the gunmen. The CP has mobilised police officers to rescue the abducted victims and to ensure that the attackers are brought to justice,” Nansel disclosed.

PUNCH Metro reported on June 22 that a top traditional title holder, the Madakin of the Shabu community in the Lafia Local Government Area of the state, Musa Shuaibu, was kidnapped by gunmen.

The gunmen were said to have invaded the area at exactly 8 pm and whisked Shuaibu away to an unknown destination.

A resident of the area who pleaded anonymity because he was not permitted to speak on the matter, had told our correspondent that Shuaibu was kidnapped a few meters away from his residence after observing the Muslim dusk prayer (Isha’i) in a Mosque in the area.
