The Edo State Police Command has confirmed the killing of one Addulrafiu Afegbua, popularly known as Uroy, by gunmen at Awoyemi at Okpella, in Etsako East LGA of the state.
DAILY POST reports that the spokesman of the Command, SP Moses Yamu confirmed the killing of the middle-aged man to newsmen in Benin City.
Yamu said investigation is ongoing in a bid to arrest the suspects.
It was gathered that the deceased was killed by gunmen suspected to be assassins.
A source close to the family, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said the deceased was with his wife at home in the night when he received a call inviting him to a particular place.
The source added that the deceased, not suspecting any ulterior motive, immediately dashed out of the house to meet the unidentified caller.
He explained that efforts made by the wife of the deceased to stop him from leaving the house after he received the call were not successful as he insisted on going out to meet his caller.
He further explained that the deceased, on reaching the location, was reportedly shot at close range on his chest and neck, leading to his death.
The source also disclosed that the wife, after waiting for a long time without hearing from her husband, started calling his phone line which went repeatedly unanswered.
He said the development prompted friends and family members to organize a search party in the morning to look for the deceased.
The deceased was eventually found dead inside the bush, close to where his motorbike was abandoned.
