Ricky Jones has been suspended by the Labour Party

Metropolitan Police says it is investigating comments allegedly made by a Kent councillor at a counter protest as a "matter of urgency".

Labour also suspended Dartford councillor Ricky Jones after videos emerged online that reportedly showed him telling a crowd that far right demonstrators needed to have their throats cut.

A Labour spokesperson said: “This behaviour is completely unacceptable and it will not be tolerated."

Dartford's newly-elected Labour MP Jim Dickson and Mr Jones have been approached for a comment.

In video that has circulated on social media a man at the rally was filmed apparently saying: “They are disgusting Nazi fascists and we need to cut all their throats and get rid of them all.”

Reform leader Nigel Farage has called on X for the Dartford councillor to be “arrested”.

Metropolitan Police said it was aware of the "significant public concern" regarding the video.

Mr Jones, who has represented the Princes ward of Dartford since 2019, will be unable to sit on the Labour benches at Dartford Borough Council meetings.
