Police Issue Fresh Advisory On Controversial e-CMR

3 weeks ago 3

The Nigerian Police Force has made a fresh public statement on the implementation of the previously suspended digitalized Central Motor Registry (e-CMR).

The Police stated that the e-CMR is a sophisticated digital system to enhance vehicle security, combat crime, and streamline the vehicle registration process.

The Force also charged vehicle owners to work with them to make Nigerian roads safer.

The development was confirmed in a statement released via the official X handle of the Police Force on Friday.

As per the announcement, individuals can easily register and manage vehicle details online, monitor stolen vehicles, and mitigate fraudulent activities.

The post reads, “Good day, good citizens of Nigeria.

“The Nigeria Police Force has enhanced vehicle security with the introduction of the E-Central Motor Registry (E-CMR). This advanced digital system is designed to improve vehicle security, fight crime, and simplify vehicle registration. E-CMR ensures that every vehicle has a digital footprint. You can conveniently register and manage vehicle information online, track stolen vehicles, and prevent fraudulent activities. Let’s work together to make our roads safer.”

Naija News recalls that the Police previously disclosed intentions to initiate the digitalized Central Motor Registry (e-CMR) enforcement on July 29, 2024.

However, in light of the controversy surrounding this announcement, Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun mandated an immediate halt to the enforcement of the e-CMR.

At that time, the Police Force stated that the suspension was intended to provide sufficient opportunity for widespread public awareness and education regarding the processes, advantages, and efficacy of the e-CMR.
