The special squad of the Delta State Police Command has arrested three suspected kidnappers for the alleged abduction of a 29-year-old man in Sapele town. The Guardian learnt that the victim, who hails from the Kokori community in Ethiope East Local Council, was abducted on February 17, 2024, by a five-man armed kidnapping syndicate.
Confirming the arrest, the spokesperson for the command, SP Bright Edafe, said the syndicate collected N5 million ransom from their victim, which was transferred from his account to the hoodlums’ unknown bank account.
Edafe explained that after regaining freedom, the victim reported to the command, and the Commissioner of Police, Olufemi Abaniwonda, directed the squad to investigate and ensure that the perpetrators were arrested and brought to book.
He said: “The operatives, led by ASP Julius Robinson, acting on available information provided by the kidnapped victim, embarked on an investigation, stormed Sapele town on August 11, at about 4:30 p.m., and raided the apartment of one Sapiro (real name unknown) and recovered a Beretta pistol.
“His gang members, Tony Binitie, ‘m’, 29 (aka Bobo) of Big-Warri community in Warri South Local Council, who is the syndicate’s gang leader and another gang member, Ejiro Ewuba, ‘m’, 30, a native of Uwelogbo community in Isoko Local Council of Delta State, resident at Owumi Road Sapele, were arrested.
“Also arrested was one Ayuba Hussaini, ‘m’, 38, a resident of Hausa quarters, Sapele town, the receiver of the victim’s jewellery and phones valued at millions of naira.”
Edafe added that the three suspects confessed to the act and that efforts were ongoing to arrest other gang members.
