Police Officer Kills Colleague In Lagos During Altercation Over Used Phone

The Nigeria Police Force is reportedly investigating the shooting incident involving police aides assigned to Barrister Wale Fapohunda, which occurred in the Surulere area of Lagos State on August 8, 2024.

Reports indicate that the arrested suspect attempted to shoot one Vincent during a verbal altercation regarding a second-hand phone, but tragically ended up fatally wounding Gabriel Audu, who was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

As per the police report, on the evening of August 8, 2024, at around 10:22 p.m., the Control Room received information regarding a police officer from SPU Base 10 Sokoto, who was assigned to Barrister Wale Fapohunda, having shot and killed Gabriel Audu, who was affiliated with the same lawyer.

“As soon as the information was received, the police team left for Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH), where the suspect F/ No 510570 Corporal Umar Lawal was apprehended, and his rifle AK47, which he used to kill the deceased, was also recovered.

“He confessed to the crime and stated that he truly wanted to shoot Vincent, aka Dogman, who had engaged him in a heated argument over a used phone he had purchased from him.

“Unfortunately, the bullet struck the deceased in the chest, and he was taken to Luth General Hospital Idiaraba, where he was pronounced dead.

“The corpse has been photographed, and his remains have been placed in the same hospital morgue for autopsy,” the police report issued over the weekend read.
