The Ondo State Police Command on Sunday said investigation had begun into the killing of a commercial motorcyclist identified as Yakubu by unknown assailants on Friday.

The lifeless body of the motorcyclist also known as okada rider was found in a pool of blood on the road along Oke-Agbe-Arigidi Akoko road in the Akoko North-West Local Government Area of the state, with machete cuts all over his body, indicating he was hacked to death.

According to an eyewitness, the assailants also cut off the throat of the deceased while his motorcycle was taken away.

The incident was the fourth such occurrence in the area after a week that three persons in the area (one farmer and two okada riders) were found dead in similar circumstances.

When contacted on Sunday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Mrs Funmilayo Odunlami, confirmed the incident, saying the command had begun an investigation into it noting that the command was making efforts to arrest the perpetrators of the dastardly act.

“We are aware of the incident and an investigation has begun into it. With the killings of the commercial motorcyclists in the state, the command is not resting on its oars to ensure these culprits are brought to book,” the PPRO stated.

It was gathered that the corpse of the deceased had been deposited at the morgue of State Specialist Hospital in Ikare Akoko.
