Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Adegoke Fayoade, has redeployed the Chairman of Lagos State Environmental and Special Offenses Unit (Taskforce), Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP), Shola Jejeloye, to the Lagos Rapid Response Squad (RRS). He will head the RRS as Commander.
Jejeloye was appointed Commander, Governor’s Monitoring Team (GMT) in 2019 and was elevated to the rank of Chief Superintendent of Police in 2020, after which he assumed the position of Chairman, Taskforce.
Although Jejeloye brought sanity to Lagos State, some of his operations were questioned, especially when his team clashed with citizens and bike riders.
In 2021, Jejeloye led an assault on a male reporter with The Guardian, destroying the latter’s equipment and detaining him in a Black Maria for almost an hour.
After the incident, he visited the Rutam House headquarters of the newspaper along Apapa-Oshodi expressway, met with the management, and promised to replace the equipment. He never did.
Consequently, the reporter, through the Media Rights Agenda (MRA), sued Jejeloye for assault and sought damages. The police officer was represented by a lawyer in the Ministry of Justice in Lagos. The case was however thrown out by the judge hearing the matter at the Federal High Court, Ikoyi, Lagos.
Jejeloye, known as a brilliant officer who was on secondment to both the African Union Mission and the United Nations African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) 2007-2009, was the chairman of the Taskforce under four Commissioners of Police in Lagos.
His successor, Adetayo Akerele, who was the Officer-in-charge of the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), is a seasoned administrator and a former BRT Lane Monitoring and Enforcement Commander.
The immediate past Commander of RRS, Chief Superintendent of Police (CSP) Saheed Egbeyemi, was redeployed to Department of Finance and Administration (DFA); SP Ndufiok Emmanuel was redeployed from DFA to 2 I/C Gender SHQ; ASP Oladiti Ayodeji was redeployed from DFA to CP TT Adamo Ikorodu; and W/Inspr Ekong Carol was redeployed from SCID Panti Yaba to Elomoro Division.
