Pro-Wike Lawmakers ‘Stop’ Rivers Gov’t Expenditures After Expiration Of Ultimatum To Fubara

2 months ago 5

The Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule-led Rivers State House of Assembly, loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Chief Nyesom Wike, has shut down all expenditures of the state government, pending when Governor Siminalayi Fubara re-presents the 2024 budget estimates of the State before the House.

The development came after the expiration of the seven-day ultimatum the pro-Wike lawmakers gave to Fubara to re-present the budget before them.

Factional Leader of the House, Hon. Major Jack, had during plenary, raised the motion informing the House about the expiration of the seven-day ultimatum given to the governor to represent the 2024 budget before the House.

The House, therefore, resolved that the governor was no longer allowed to approve or authorise expenditure from the consolidated revenue fund of the state, nor are ministries permitted to spend public funds until the 2024 budget is presented.

Recall that Governor Fubara had in December, 2023, signed the budget of N800 billion into law after presenting it before lawmakers led by the former factional speaker, Rt. Hon. Edison Ehie, who passed it into law.
