The Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Chapter of the Nigeria Medical Association (NMA) has called on President Bola Tinubu to address hunger and high cost of living which are the root causes of protest by citizens.

NMA Chairman, FCT branch, Dr. Charles Ugwuanyi said President Tinubu must take action to make the economy more manageable for citizens to afford basic necessities.

In an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), on Monday, Ugwuanyi said the ongoing #EndBadGovernanceinNigeria protest was a result of public dissatisfaction.

He noted that the current hardship in the country made citizens view protest as necessary means to express their frustration.

NMA chairman said, “In recent times, President Tinubu’s desire to rescue the country from so many issues that have bedevilled it has thrown severe hardship on Nigerians.

“Despite President Tinubu’s efforts to address the country’s numerous challenges, many Nigerians continue to suffer from hunger and harsh conditions, which has led to widespread public dissatisfaction.

“The dire economic situation has led many to view protests as a necessary outlet for their frustrations; such action also threatens the national security of the country.

“Government must address the main issue of hunger and cost of food. The president should address all these challenges and other economy-related issue like the cost of fuel that is injecting pains on the people.

Ugwuanyi added that the President has a duty to make the economy friendly for Nigerians. “We are calling on the president to make the economy friendly so the Nigerian will be able to put food on their table.”
