Ahead of the August 1, 2024, planned protest against economic hardship in the country, the Edo State Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, has summoned Area Commanders, Divisional Officers, and Special Tactical Team leaders for a strategic briefing.

DAILY POST reports that the Commandant of the State Command, Mr Gbenga Agun, disclosed this on Sunday in a statement issued on his behalf by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, Mr Efosa Ogbebor.

Agun said the move was aimed at ensuring a peaceful and secure environment for all citizens during the protest.

He, however, disclosed that the Command would be deploying 2,100 personnel to ensure that the protest is peaceful in the state.

He also directed the officers to take charge of their respective areas of responsibility, intensify patrols, and ensure that there is no breakdown of law and order.

According to him, the officers should beef up security around critical national assets such as government facilities, infrastructure and public utilities, which is a key duty of the Corps.

The commandant, however, warned individuals who intend to hijack the protest to cause violence, destruction, or chaos to desist, stating that they would face the full wrath of the law.

Agun assured that the Corps would not tolerate any form of criminality or disruption of public peace.

He also assured law-abiding citizens to go about their legitimate businesses without fear, as the Corps was committed to maintaining peace and security in the state.
