1 month ago 4

The peaceful protest against hunger and hardship in Nigeria started on the 1st of August, 2024, with aggrieved Nigerians marching in their numbers to express their pain.

Nigerians on Thursday took to the streets across the country calling for policies that will ease the pain of the citizenry.

However, the protest which started peacefully, eventually turned violent in some states, with some hoodlums looting government properties, while some lost their lives and others injured.

The tension has seen some northern governors declare curfew in their states to checkmate hoodlums invading government properties.

Here is the full list of states that have declared curfew:

Borno State

The Borno State Police Command, on Thursday, imposed a 24-hour curfew amid the nationwide hunger protest.

Naija News reports that the declaration was made after many protesters went berserk at the Bulunkutu area, in Maiduguri, Borno State capital, as the police officers fired teargas to disperse them.

Yobe State

The Yobe State Government, on Thursday, also imposed a 24-hour curfew on Potiskum, Gashua and Nguru areas of the state.

Naija News reports that the decision was reached by the state government after some hoodlums reportedly cashed in on the harship protest to loot government property.

Kano State

The Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, amidst the protest against hunger in the country on Thursday declared 24-hour curfew in the state.

The governor declared the curfew at a press conference held at the Government House on Thursday.

Nasarawa State

A dusk-to-dawn curfew has been imposed on the Karu Local Government Area (LGA) of Nasarawa State after the #EndBadGovernance protests turned violent.

Just like Kano, Borno and Yobe states, the government declared curfew following the destruction, looting, stealing, highway blockade, and vandalism that trailed the demonstration in the Mararraba area, the border between Nasarawa State and the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
