Protest: Govt Shuts Down Schools, Suspends JLC Exams In Zamfara

Governor Dauda Lawal’s government of Zamfara State has issued a directive for the prompt closure of all schools in the state in anticipation of the nationwide protest against economic challenges scheduled to commence on Thursday, August 1.

Naija News reports that the announcement was made by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education in Zamfara, Barira Bagobiri.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, Bagobiri emphasized the importance of this action in ensuring the safety of the students and preventing any potential security risks.

Additionally, she mentioned that the ongoing JLC examination will be temporarily suspended, with a new date for its continuation to be announced at a later time.

“This is to inform the general public that the Hon. Commissioner of the State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Mallam Wadatau Madawaki, has approved the immediate closure of all schools across the state on the 1st August 2024.

“The measure has been taken to avert any security threat that may befall our students on the way to school due to the planned nationwide protest. Similarly, the ongoing JLC Exams is suspended and a new date for its continuation will be announced in due course,” the announcement said.
