Protest: ‘Leave The Igbos, Tinubu Has Not Done Well’ – Dele Momodu

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain, Dele Momodu, has absolved the Igbos over conspiracy theories regarding the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protests around Nigeria.

Naija News reports that some Nigerians have expressed mixed reactions over the non-participation of Igbos in the nationwide protests, with others alleging the Southeast instigated the protest.

In a post via X on Friday, Momodu defended the Igbos, insisting that “nobody instigated anyone or anything.”

The veteran journalist, while responding to a message from ‘Tinubu apologist’, said the conspiracy against the Igbos is cheap blackmail, stressing that the masses are hungry while the government is living large.

Dele Momodu insisted that President Bola Tinubu has not done well, adding that ethnicising the protests is to be disingenuous.

He wrote: “This unfortunate conspiracy theory was forwarded to me this morning by a Tinubu apologist. Here’s my response: It is all a cheap blackmail. The people are hungry while the government is living large.

“The Igbo are largely traders. They look after their own globally. Nobody instigated anyone or anything.

“You guys should accept the reality that Tinubu has not done very well. Leave the Igbo out of your excuses. To ethnicise the protests is to be disingenuous…”

We Need Urgent Reset

Meanwhile, Dele Momodu has strongly condemned a recent statement by the former Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, regarding marriage practices in Northern Nigeria.

Naija News reports that Fayose, an ally of President Bola Tinubu, had suggested that the practice of marrying multiple wives and having many children is a significant issue contributing to Nigeria’s population crisis.

Fayose made these comments during an interview on Channels TV, where he claimed that Tinubu’s inability to address economic hardship was due to  “indiscriminate” childbearing and marriage in the North.

Reacting via his X handle on Tuesday, Dele Momodu berated Fayose over the statement, stating that the country cannot afford the blame game at this critical time.
