Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno, has advised youths to shun protest, stating that protest would destroy the development plan of the state.

Governor Umo Eno appealed to Nigerian youths to embrace dialogue. Governor Eno said protest remains a guaranteed right of the citizens, but experience requires peace and dialogue.

Akwa-Ibom State government said economic challenges facing the country would be fixed through dialogue. He said the state would benefit more from an atmosphere of peace and tranquility.

Eno said this on Tuesday, in a meeting with youth groups, students, market associations, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and Trade Union Congress (TUC) members, and civil society organizations.

I urge everyone to maintain peace to ensure our state’s economic development plans succeed under the ARISE Agenda. While acknowledging your right to protest, our state benefits more from an atmosphere of peace and tranquility. Let’s work together to continue building a brighter future for Akwa Ibom.

“Let me also emphasize that we are a peaceful state and we have maintained this hard-won peace, over the years. I want to appeal, if at all, you will participate in the planned protest, (since youths from a number of states have opted out ) please do so peacefully. You must ensure that miscreants do not hijack your protest,” he said.
