Protest Will Take Us To Dark Days – ALGON

National Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), National President,  Aminu Mu’azu Maifata, has said the planned hunger protest by citizens would take Nigeria to dark days.

The Chairman of Lafia Local Government Area of Nasarawa State said though protest is a legal right of citizens enshrined in the constitution, peace and dialogue would be the best option to use and address the challenges facing the country.

Mu’azu Maifata said violent protests over time led to the destruction of the economy. He added that Nigerians must shun the protest for peace and development.

ALGON President said this on Friday while briefing newsmen in Abuja. Maifata noted that the federal government has been active in addressing some of the challenges faced by the citizens through palliative.

He said, “Although protest is a constitutional right, violent protest has proven overtime to be detrimental to the economy. That is why I am calling on Nigerians to shun the planned protest and rally support for the current government as social investment Programmes are being rolled out.”

The Lafia council chairman said council chairmen across Nigerians have been supporting the federal government to implement some of its programmes to bring succour to the local people.

These programmes and schemes have short, medium and long-term results and we have started executing them at the local level as part of efforts to bring succour to our people.

“Therefore, I call on Nigerians to instead positively participate in the growth and development of the country as protest will only take us back to those dark days,” Maifata added.
