Protests: Group Faults Akpabio’s Comment

1 month ago 7

The Coalition for Parliamentary Democracy (CPD) has faulted Senate President, Senator Godswill Akpabio, on a comment he made barely hours to the ongoing protest at a programme organised by the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC).

The group claimed that the statement credited to Senator Akpabio wherein he declared that Nigerians can be protesting while they are eating could have spiked the protests that had just started when he commented.

The group’s national coordinator, Dr Menike Johnson, claimed Akpabio’s utterance angered the youths who then alleged that the federal government is uncaring, inconsiderate, and detached from Nigerians.

The CPD further claimed that Akpabio’s statement contradicted what President Bola Tinubu was preaching.

“Only this can account for his public opinion that Nigerians can be protesting while they in government are eating,” the group stated.

Akpabio’s media team has however said the words were not that of the Senate president.
